You are Worthy

O my beloved, you are striking—Lovely even in your weakness.

Song of Songs 6:4 TPT

Un-worthiness is perhaps the single most destructive plague in the church today. It strips us of our identity, destroys our confidence and keeps us silent in the shadows.

Knowing we are worthy gives us our new skin so to speak. Naaman was not a believer, but he heard from one of his slave girls about a prophet who could heal him. He had leprosy; one of the worst and most debilitating skin diseases of the time. When Naaman came to Elisha for healing; the man of God told him to dip in the River Jordan seven times. But Naaman didn’t like what Elisha said. He had a different idea of what his healing would look like. Why couldn’t Elisha just touch him or command his skin to be healed? God is all about offending our minds especially when it comes to His lavish love.

You see, we want to take some responsibility for our worthiness. How could a prostitute who had a years worth of wages in a jar be worthy? How could a religious zealot responsible for killing Christians be worthy? In order to understand the way God thinks, we have to go back to the beginning. Our worthiness was never wrapped up in right or wrong, it was wrapped up in His voice and His breath.

Right and wrong was there for us to show Him our love not our worthiness. We love Him when we obey Him, but He loves us no matter what. Little did Naaman know his story would prophesy something to come. Elisha had God’s power but the Jordan was the River where God Himself had crossed, leading the Israelites into the promise land. When Naaman dipped in the river the first time nothing happened. And nothing happened 5 more times, but when he came out of the water the seventh time, the Bible says his skin was like that of a baby. I think our our new skin of worthiness happens when we dip into His love daily.

You are so worthy that God put on your skin, so you could put on His. Jesus gave us new skin. Our worthiness began in a garden and was cinched up for eternity on a cross. We could not attain it by what we did and we can never lose it by what we do.

If you are struggling with feelings of unworthiness, pray this: “Father, dip me in Your love! I want new skin. Show me my worthiness.
